Trauma Outreach and Education
(316) 962-3508

Wesley Trauma Services recognizes the unique role that physicians, physician assistants, hospital personnel, and prehospital providers play in the care of trauma patient. From initial stabilization and resuscitation at the closest treatment site to treatment at our Level 1 Trauma Center, ongoing communication is necessary to maintain continuity of care. Wesley's trauma outreach program provides feedback to our healthcare partners through patient updates and outreach case reviews.
Education
Continuing education classes on adult and pediatric trauma are offered to health-care providers, both in-house and as part of Wesley's outreach activities. Also provided are outreach case reviews and mini-seminars on trauma-related topics, and a limited number of TNCC classes at various hospitals throughout the state. In addition, Wesley Trauma Service also provides the Rural Trauma Development Course to rural healthcare providers throughout the area.
Trauma Nurse Shadow Program
Nursing staff at rural hospitals can gain clinical insight and further experience in trauma nursing care by participating in Wesley's Trauma Nurse Shadow Program. Visiting nurses are paired with a trauma control nurse (TCN) for a clinical observation experience. They are encouraged to ask questions, look over documentation, and visit within the trauma team. The TCN helps identify important information related to each trauma patient and attempts to build upon the trauma-related critical-thinking base that the visiting nurse already has. Wesley's trauma control nurses have extensive clinical and educational backgrounds.
This program is provided by Wesley free of charge.
The visiting nurse selects the date and time of the visit. For the best observation experience, we recommend shadowing for an 8–12 hour day. The prerequisite for this course is proof of valid licensure as a registered nurse. Current or past experience with trauma patients and TNCC is recommended, but not required.
