The Children's Center at Wesley is essentially a Children’s Hospital with extensions into the community. In addition to the Pediatric Unit within Wesley’s main building, you will find a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit staffed with specialists in pediatric intensive care; a Pediatric Emergency Department; and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for sick and premature newborns. Facilities outside the main hospital include the Pediatric Center of Kansas, a collaboration with the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita , KU Wichita Pediatrics and independent physicians with outpatient clinics staffed by pediatric subspecialists; and a Ronald McDonald House where parents of hospitalized children can stay overnight.
Care is provided by pediatricians, many of whom have subspecialties in neonatology, surgery, intensive care, infectious diseases, allergy/immunology, radiology, endocrinology, neurology, cardiology, pulmonology, urology, orthopedics, anesthesia and child development. Other experienced staff include child development therapists, pediatric respiratory therapists, pediatric nurses, child-life specialists, dietitians, care coordinators, pharmacists, and chaplains. Our staff are specially trained to meet the emotional as well as physical needs of young patients and their families. Child-life specialists focus on helping children of all ages feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.
Parents are encouraged to talk to our staff about any questions they may have concerning their child's hospitalization. We provide education programs to help parents understand and provide for their child's health-care needs. Parents can relax and find information and support in the Ronald McDonald Family Room located near the Pediatric Intensive Care unit. Comfortable lodging is available at the nearby Ronald McDonald House and the Wesley Inn.
