Pediatric Outpatient Dialysis Unit
(316) 962-2438
Wesley has the Kansas’ only outpatient dialysis unit exclusively for children. The unit is certified in end-stage renal disease by the Kansas Department of Health and Human Services.
The unit provides hemodialysis three times per week for chronic patients. It also has a full-time nurse who provides training for peritoneal dialysis and oversees care of children who receive home peritoneal dialysis.
Led by medical director Michelle Stuart Hilgenfeld, MD, the unit uses a team approach to care for the complex issues of children receiving dialysis. Team members include registered nurses, a social worker, dietitian, and child life specialist, all of whom have training and experience in working with children who have kidney disease. They assist the children and their families with their emotional, physical, educational , nutritional and social issues.
Dr. Stuart Hilgenfeld is the only board-certified pediatric nephrologist in Kansas. After completing her medical training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine—Wichita and her pediatric residency in Wichita, she completed a pediatric nephrology fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
The unit is open weekdays from 8 a.m to 9 p.m., and is located on the sixth floor of Building 4 (Tower Building). For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (316) 962-2438.
