Birth-roomsThe Wesley Women’s Hospital is designed to handle more complicated births. It is located in Building 3 of Wesley Medical Center. Like the BirthCare Center, the hospital enables the mother to choose her birth plan and encourages the participation of family and friends, as much as possible.

Guidelines for choosing the Wesley Women’s Hospital

The Wesley Women’s Hospital is the best choice for you if:

  • You have not had regular obstetric care, or
  • Your physician is expecting a premature birth or a baby needing special care, or
  • Your health requires high-risk care, or
  • You are planning to have a cesarean delivery.

You may, however, choose the Wesley Women’s Hospital even if you expect a normal birth.

The Women’s Hospital has 20 labor rooms, 23 mother/baby rooms, and a specialized care unit for mothers with medically complicated pregnancies. Labor, delivery and initial recovery take place in the same room. After a few hours, you and your baby are transferred to one of the private mother/baby rooms on the fifth floor. For the comfort of you and your family members, a kitchen area is provided.

If you or your baby needs special care, a team of specialists will be there to provide the best care possible. We will keep you informed about what is happening and why. If possible, you and your baby can stay together in the Neonatal Special Care Unit. If necessary, your baby may stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Admission

If you plan to give birth at the Wesley Women’s Hospital, enter the parking garage on the south side of Murdock (at the north end of the medical center). Drive to the green level and park in the area marked "women in labor." Leave your suitcase and purse in your car trunk until after the birth. Go to the exit at the south end of the garage. If you need immediate help, use the emergency telephone in the red box near the south exit. If you can walk into the hospital, go through the south exit and take the enclosed walkway into the hospital. Once inside, take a lobby elevator to the second floor. There will be signs posted to guide you.
